5 of 5 Excellent TV Saturday, April 12, 2008 Subba from Arlington, VA
First of all it's a great looking TV. The pictures are vibrant. I've hooked up my PS3, mac mini and PC in the 3 HDMI inputs and all of them work flawlessly. The sound in kinda thin, but since I only use the TV speakers when viewing TV late nights, it does not bother me much. I'm not a big fan of the remote but it gets the work done. For the price and the quality of the product I'm giving it a full 5. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Does as good as expected Sunday, January 20, 2008 Brett Morgan from Bedford, Indiana
I bought this TV about 1 month ago. It came in excellent condition and fairly easy to install. The OSD setup was straight-forward and audio/video assistant tool allowed me to tune the settings for best picture and sound without having to monkey around with the contrast, color ratios, etc.
I don't have HD digital service so I wasn't able to enjoy the TV at its full capability. I might have to upgrade to digital service now. Even the analog channels look good (not great), but that is not the TV's fault. Analog service is only 480p or worse. I did get several of digital channels that my analog TV didn't pick up using the build-in ASTC tuner. Some look very close to HD. I consider them free channels. I picked up 30 music channels, CNN, TNT, and TBS that were not included in my standard analog package.
The only negative I saw was the PC interface. The TV supports 1080p (1920x1080 or 1280x1024) resolutions. I have a laptop with a VGA port only. I used VGA-DVI-HDMI adapter cables without success. I tried VGA to component video adapter cable and that didn't work either. From the manual, the TV ONLY supports PC video from either S-video to S-video or DVI to HDMI. So I am out of luck with my laptop unless I upgrade it or get a converter from analog to digital.
With all that said I am mostly pleased with the TV and would recommend others to purchase one. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great TV with many features Friday, January 18, 2008 A Customer from Plano, Texas
At the outset, let me mention that I am not an electronics buff so I will try to describe it as best as I can.
I bought this TV in Jan 2008. It was delivered two days before it was promised. The delivery person, although not required to, helped me install it. There were no scratches, dents, or dead pixels. The installation was a breeze. I have it hooked up to regular (not digital) cable and the picture is great. I have also connected a progressive scan DVD player using regular three cables (Red, White and Yellow). The picture is great and adjusts to the input. Some channels are not clear but I think that is more because of the cheap cable connection; other channels are crystal clear. I have not had time to connect it to any home theater equipment but the sound from the TV speakers is very good. The remote is very intuitive and easy to operate. I recommend this TV and Buy.com very highly. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Best 1080 LCD for the Price Thursday, January 17, 2008 Jason Wooten from Cincinnati
What can I say? Got this for about $1100. best 42" LCD 1080 I could find. Solid brand, great pic, easy setup. Nice stand. Doesn't look cheap. Sent via AIT Logistics, they called me to see what the best day to deliver would be. Awesome. The only very "minor" complaint is that the remote control is very cheap looking and cheap feeling and will certainly break if dropped. It weighs about an ounce with batteries. But you don't even use it if you've got cable/dish so who cares really? Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Nice picture and very stylish. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
This TV looks great even though I am just viewing standard definition right now. DVD's look much better than cable, but even some cable channels look nice. Was this review helpful?

as the previous reviewer wrote, this tv provides a magnificent picture. i'm using it for regular analog cable and that is fine as long as you set the format for 4:3. the automatic format will stretch the picture to fit the screen but i really don't like this feature. thankfully it is easily turned off for the tv input. in fact, each of the inputs can have its own format setting which the tv will remember. i'm also using a dvd player that upconverts the signal to 1080i, this is plugged into the hdmi port. this really makes the dvd's look fantastic. it does take a few moments (maybe 5 seconds) for the tv and dvd player to sync up the 1080i signal, but it is definitely worth the wait. i've found that you should have the tv on and set to the proper hdmi input before you turn on the dvd player. if you do the reverse (start the dvd player before turning on the tv), sometimes the tv and dvd player are not able to sync up properly and you don't get any picture.
the numberous inputs are very convenient. i'm using an onkyo home theater surround system and it (the onkyo) cannot show it's settings through the hdmi port (the dvd actually runs through the home theater before getting to the tv) so i just plug in the onkyo to one of the av inputs and i'm able to manage the onkyo without any problems. i'm also able to switch between the hdmi input with a dvd going to the av input to adjust the onkyo and back to the hdmi input without any problems, seems that once the dvd player and tv are sync'ed, they stay sync'ed even if you change the input.
the only downside that i've found with this tv is that you cannot disable the tv speakers. as i indicated above, i'm using a home theater surround sound system, do i don't want the tv speakers to come on. at this point, i have the volume on the tv set to 0, but it would be nice to be able to disable the speakers (sometimes my kids turn up the volume on the tv instead of the receiver).
but given the awesome picture and the awesome price, i can turn the volume back down on the tv pretty easily.
i'm in the process of mounting the tv on a peerless tilting wall mount. i've run into a couple of problems, this tv is not listed in the peerless datasheets. but it seems to use the same screws and shims as the other 42" phillips 42pfl tv. the other problem was one of the mounts on the tv was not quite threaded properly for the screws that needed to be used. i had to clean up the treads of the mount before i could get the screw to go in (the other three mounts were fine). other than that it mounts up nicely (but the tv is really heavy!!).

This is just coming from a regular TV watcher, I'm no electronics guru so don't expect an over the top, technically minded review. I'll just tell you what I DO know, and I know that this is a wonderful television that Buy.com offered for a FANTASTIC price. When I saw the price I couldn't pass it up as I have been shopping around for a 42" Widescreen for a long time.

My order arrived in roughly 4 days in perfect condition. The TV is easy to set up. Right now, I still have basic cable, however, the television will still pick up any digital signals in the are and broadcast local channels in High Def without having to unhook the cable and plug in an analog antenna which is a FANTASTIC feature until I can invest in digital cable. The picture is as wonderful as you'd expect, even on the channels not being displayed in high def.
<br>
<br>
The set up is easy, and the TV will walk you through a few screens that actually sets the color, brightness, contrast, and sound up to your personal preferences without you having to go in and adjust the above manually, unless you want to (and you do have that option, but this feature was great for a novice like me).
<br>
<br>
There is a hook up for absolutely for absolutely any kind of device you can imagine, INCLUDING HDMI and a USB port.
<br>
<br>
All in all, this is a sleek looking TV with great sound and display. It really brings to life the TV viewing experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good television at a great price. Definitely worth the investment. Was this review helpful?
