great game
- Pros: Great game, lots of fun when using wii remote acting like steering wheel. Game has lots of uncrackables and will draw your attention for 20+ hours. Online play allows to you play against your friends. Wii channel has tourments once a while. All in all very good game. Worth 50 bucks.
- Cons: Need improvements on having more characters, more interesting tracks. This game is 75% same as combining mario kart versions through history.
- Other Thoughts: the wheel is total not worth buying it. It is so small and makes the turning very hard.
Nice Game, Flawed AI
- Pros: This game has some fun levels, plenty of unlockable characters, online play is FINALLY HERE, and the graphics seem good to me. The wheel is nice to use, and the items you get are good*. It can be fun playing in a group, but there are some major drawbacks (below). Online play is really the only way to go because it relieves, although doesn't completely eliminate, the massive adaptive item distribution the AI performs.
- Cons: All the levels are from the older versions; if you've played all the older ones, there really isn't anything new. The graphics, although good, are not up to modern standards. They may be the best graphics yet, but compared to some PS3 games and Xbox games, I was expecting better. Online play is the best part, but to get connected takes quite some time (although once connected, it doesn't take too long). You better have a wireless router or buy the adapter if you plan on online play. The wheel....hmmm....it's okay. I still long for the precision of a real remote. I haven't used an actual remote yet, but I imagine it would be much more precise than the wheel. The major flaw, adaptive item distribution (based on positioning), is discussed below.
- Other Thoughts: Like everyone else has said, this game does not rely so much on skill as it does on luck. You can be playing against the computer and lead the ENTIRE game, to be hit by 4 "super" shells that are impossible to escape and fall to dead last in the final 50 feet of the race. It is obvious the game is set up to give players not in first an advantage as far as items. First place never gets anything but green shells and bananas while last place gets a super speed mushrooms and a "bullets". Heck, you could seriously wait in last place (not too far back) until the last half of the final lap, get a bullet, and shoot into first without being touched: so cheap. I really like to concept of Mario Kart, but the part where skill is eliminated and replaced with socialistic luck is the major problem. If you love Mario Kart and have come to expect this sort of cheap "skill-evening" AI, then go ahead. If you don't, stay away because it is even worse than in previous versions.
Great Game
- Pros: Game lives up to the Mario Kart series name. Wonderful new tracks, many characters and vehicles to choose from, multiplayer is fantastic for the Wii either on same system or thru online play. Replay factor is high and I doubt the game will become uninteresting.
- Cons: The Wii wheel. While a novel idea, just doesn't live up to the vision when one actually uses it.
- Other Thoughts: The wheel is great for players new to the game (read 'with no skill') and allows anyone to play. If you are really a gamer though, remote/nunchuk combo or gamecube controller is a must.
